Shane Holinde Biography
Shane Holinde is an American Meteorologist known for working with WBKO-TV where he served the station as a Chief Meteorologist since joining the station in March 2001. He is a proud member of the National Weather Association and earned that organization’s coveted broadcast seal of approval in November 2006. At the moment, he works for Western Kentucky University as the Outreach Manager.

Holinde works with WBKO-TV where he was serving the station as a Chief Meteorologist. He is in his 19th year of forecasting South-Central Kentucky’s ever-changing atmospheric conditions. Holinde began his career by working with WBKO in the production department in the Summer of 2000 before joining the First Alert Storm Team in March 2001.
Shane has also been honored four times by the Kentucky Associated Press for “Best Weather Anchor” in TV Division II( in the years 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2014), with a second-place award in that category in the year 2008.
He has always had a passion for weather from a young age. Holinde states that he was too young to recall it but his parents site the “Great Ohio Valley Blizzard of 1978” as the first big weather event that enthralled their son while growing up near Owensboro, KY.
Later on, he got his first taste of performing in front of an audience, broadcasting a weather forecast drawn on a poster board for his fellow grade school students. Over three decades have passed since those days but Shane retains that same enthusiasm for meteorology, having covered everything from ice storms to tornadoes.
He is a proud graduate of Western Kentucky University where he was double majoring in broadcast journalism and geosciences in the year 2002. While he was working at WKU, he was working as a weather and news reporter/anchor for the student TV newscast. Asides from this, he also spent a semester as a disc jockey in Owensboro for a unit appropriately known as “Thunder and Lightning Music.”
The fall of 2009 saw him return to his alma mater where he was serving as an adjunct broadcast meteorology professor. The avid “Parrothead,” enjoys the music and writing of Jimmy Buffett and has been to 23 concerts and counting. Asides from that, he enjoys watching sports, bike riding, fishing on the “sunny and 75”, and reading.
He has also done a little singing and dancing on the side. The summer of 2007 saw him being portrayed as the bad guy “Jud” in the Fountain Square Players’ production of “Oklahoma” at Bowling Green’s Capitol Arts Center.
Holinde has also participated in both versions of “Dancing with Bowling Green’s Own” benefiting Make-a-Wish, finishing second in the April 2008 competition. Since the summer of 2010, he has also served on the board of the South-Central KY Chapter of the American Red Cross. He is now serving as the vice-chair of the board.
