Shane Holinde Biography

Shane Holinde is an American certified meteorologist currently working as the chief meteorologist at WBKO Television. He joined the station in March 2001.

Shane Holinde Career

Holinde is in his 19th year of forecasting the ever-changing atmospheric conditions of South-Central Kentucky. In the summer of 2000, he began his career at WBKO in the production department before joining the First Alert Storm Team in March 2001.

He is a member of the National Weather Association, and in November 2006, he received the organization’s coveted broadcast seal of approval. He has received four Kentucky Associated Press awards for “Best Weather Anchor” in TV Division II (in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2014), as well as a second place award in that category in 2008. Shane got his first taste of performing in front of an audience years later, when he broadcasted a weather forecast drawn on poster board for his fellow grade school students. Shane’s enthusiasm for meteorology hasn’t waned in the three decades since those days, and he’s covered everything from ice storms to tornadoes.

Shane graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2002 with a double major in broadcast journalism and geosciences. Shane worked as a weather and news reporter/anchor for the student TV newscast at WKU. He also worked as a disc jockey for WWHR-FM for a semester and has been known to spin some tunes at sound-and-light shows in his hometown of Owensboro for a unit called “Thunder and Lightning Music.” In the fall of 2009, he returned to his alma mater to teach broadcast meteorology as an adjunct professor.

Shane, a self-proclaimed “Parrothead,” enjoys Jimmy Buffett’s music and writings. On “sunny and 75” days, he also likes to read, watch sports, and go bike riding and fishing. He’s even done some singing and dancing on the side! Shane played the bad guy “Jud” in Fountain Square Players’ production of “Oklahoma” at Bowling Green’s Capitol Arts Center in the summer of 2007. Shane has also competed in both editions of “Dancing with Bowling Green’s Own,” both of which benefit Make-a-Wish, finishing second in the April 2008 competition.
