He remembers at a very young age he wanted to become a weatherman after experiencing the May 3, 1999, Oklahoma tornado outbreak first-hand. From there, he became fully convinced that he wanted to better understand the weather and help keep others informed. When he is not working, he enjoys golfing basketball, and exploring new areas. He started his meteorological career at KTEN Media from August 2011 to June 2015. There, he co-anchored weekday morning broadcasts (Good Morning Texoma) and mid-day broadcasts (KTEN News Midday). Also, he acted as a backup to Chief Meteorologist and fill-in on weeknight broadcasts when the Chief Meteorologist in unavailable. During his time at KETAN, he experienced the full range of crazy Southern Plains weather, covering anything from severe weather outbreaks and multiple crippling winter storms to the multi-year Oklahoma/Texas drought and the historic floods that brought the drought to an end.
From November 2010 to July 2011, he worked for National Weather Center as a National Weather Centre Tour Guide. His role included leading public-private tours and presentations about the federal. state, and academic agencies within the National Weather Centre. He also worked as a weather assistant at OU Nightly from February 2011 to May 2011. Where he helped film on-air weather briefs for television station use and filled in as weather anchor as needed. From August 2010 to May 2011, he worked as a student employee – Housing & Food Services at The University of Oklahoma. Stephen has worked as a meteorology intern for KOCO-TV from August 2010 to December 2010.
There, he assisted KOCO Meteorologists with the production of weather graphics, developed valuable weather forecasting and broadcasting techniques, and received one-on-one mentoring/discussion with staff Meteorologists. He worked as a media specialist for Camp Lutherhoma from May 2007 to August 2010. From August 2008 to May 2010, he worked at The University of Oklahoma as a resident adviser. For one year and 10 months, he worked as a production assistant for Norman Public Schools Viedo Resource Centre from August 2007 to May 2009.
