Flowers attended the University of Alabama after graduating from high school. Flowers was a member of the Student Government Association, where he served in the Senate, while a student at the university. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Alabama in 1974.

Flowers serves as a political analyst at WCOV since 2008. At the age of 12, he became a page in the Alabama Legislature and worked for the State Capitol throughout his high school years. During his high school graduation, he was selected as Alabama’s Most Outstanding High School Leader. After he graduated from college, he started his career in real estate and insurance which he continues today.

Flowers started his political career at the age of 30 in 1982 and was elected state representative from Pike County. He received the largest number of votes ever cast for any person in a political race in the history of Pike County that being his first race.

In 1998, he chose not to seek reelection after serving 16 years in the Alabama House. He soon got a perfect attendance record in the legislature for about 16 consecutive years. He was named the Most Outstanding Member of the Alabama House of Representatives by his colleagues in 1992.
