Tamika Alexander Biography
Tamika Alexander is an American Award-winning Anchor working for WHNT News as a co-anchor alongside Ben Hoover at 5,6,9 and 10 p.m. Previously, she served as a senior news anchor at WVUA 23 in Tuscaloosa.

Alexander graduated from Central High School and then enrolled at Alabama University in 1998 where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and Communications in 2002.

Alexander serves as a co-anchor at 5,6,9 and 10 p.m. alongside Ben Hoover on WHNT News 19. She joined the station in March 2024 and she is thrilled to know the community and share their stories. Before joining WHNT News 19, Tamika worked for WVUA 23 in Tuscaloosa where she served as a senior news anchor. While there, she has covered multiple news including the extortion hearing for Joran van der Sloot, the retirement of Alabama football coach Nick Saban, and the extortion hearing for Joran van der Sloot.
Tamika also reported the release of West Alabama Alex Drueke by Russian forces in Ukraine and the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Aside from working as an anchor, she also worked as a producer where she worked at the United Way of West Alabama. For her excellent work at the station, she was recognized by the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
Her favorite stories included the story of Anthony Ray Hinton who was imprisoned for a death sentence for a crime he did not commit. Hinton was accused of killing two food staff restaurant managers in Birmingham in 1985. However, in 2015 he was released after serving the sentence for 28 years. For her coverage of the stories, Tamika was recognized by the Alabama Broadcasters Association for the Best Feature reports.
Besides working as a journalist, Alexander is also involved in various community services such as the City of Tuscaloosa Elevate Advisory Committee and Alabama One Credit Union Board of Directors. On top of this, she has also been acknowledged by several organizations such as the U.S. Representative Terri Sewell. In 2018, The Tuscaloosa News listed her name under the Top 40 Under 40 Business Professionals.
