Tom Hauser Biography
Tom Hauser is an American award-winning journalist who serves as the chief political reporter and anchor at KSTP-TV/Hubbard Broadcasting in Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area.
Hauser also serves as a member of several board committees. In 2019, he served as the chairman of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Committee. The committee honors the top college hockey player in the United States. Hauser has written a book “Inside the Ropes with Jesse Ventura” which was published in 2002. The book is about the remarkable four-year term of Governor Jesse Ventura

Hauser attended Edina West High School. He then attended the University of St. Thomas from 1979 to 1983. He graduated from the university in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science. In 1989, he enrolled at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Hauser began his career at KAAL-TV ABC 6 News in Austin/Albert Lea, Minnesota in December 1983. During his time there, he served as a weekend news reporter, sports reporter, and weather anchor. In April 1986, he joined WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida Area as a weekend news anchor and reporter.
Hauser became a news anchor and reporter for WHO-TV in Des Moines, Iowa Area. Hauser became chief political reporter for KSTP-TV/Hubbard Broadcasting in September 1992. Starting off, he covered the law enforcement beat in the Twin Cities for several years. In 1997, he began covering Minnesota politics. On Sunday mornings, Hauser hosts the 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS “At Issue” public affairs program.
For his coverage and news reporting of several crucial matters, Hauser has been honored with a number of awards. His award-winning coverage includes the stories that helped solve the 1970 murder of St. Paul Police Officer Jim Sackett and the plane crash of Senator Paul Wellstone. Hauser has received four Emmy awards for “At Issue.” He got one for a special about U.S. relations with Cuba after traveling to Havana, Cuba in 2015. Hauser earned two Emmys as television host of the Minnesota State High School Hockey tournament on KSTC-TV, Channel 45.
