Mike Friedman Biography
Mike Friedman is an American sportscaster working at KFDM/KBTV where he serves as the Sports Director. He joined the station in 1998.
Mike Friedman Career
Friedman is a Sports Director at KFDM/KBTV. His first job in television was at KFDM, and he paid his way through college by working in women’s shoes at Dillard’s in Scottsdale Fashion Square. In high school, he worked at a local grocery store and also worked in the deli bakery. Without a doubt, the people here are his favorite thing about SETX.
He has been extremely fortunate to have met some outstanding student-athletes and to have worked with some outstanding high school coaches. He has some wonderful memories from his time at KFDM. One of his favorite stories was one of his first features on mid-county madness. He used the analogy of King Kong vs. Godzilla, a titanic battle that only southeast Texans can comprehend.
He also had a good time meeting now-OKC Thunder Center Kendrick Perkins for the first time. Coach Andre Boutte granted him his first TV interview as he prepared to begin his Freshman year at Ozen. He can recall a lot of “yes sirs,” and he doesn’t recall looking up from staring at his feet the entire time. It’s been a pleasure to cover Kendrick since then.
He will never forget the return of Lamar University football. He, like many others in the area, desired local college football, and he is thrilled to have the Cardinal Football team now. During the season, Coach Ray Woodard airs on Sunday nights at 11:05 p.m., with yours truly as the host. He’s had some great stories on the bigger stage including Scottie Pippen’s debut with the Rockets which he’ll never forget. The Astros’ transition from the Dome to Enron Field was a delight and the Houston Texans’ first training camp as an NFL expansion team.
