Ally Coscetti Biography

Ally Coscetti is an American journalist currently working as the co-anchor for Today in Amarillo and reporter for KAMR Local 4 News. She joined the station in 2020.

Ally Coscetti Education

She attended Refugio High School. She went to Texas Lutheran University after high school to run cross country and play tennis. The plan at the start of college was to study to become a dentist. She transferred to Angelo State University after her first year of college. She changed her major at this point and graduated with a BA in Communications and a minor in Spanish.

Ally Coscetti Career

During her senior year of college, she landed her first full-time job as the Weekend News Anchor/MMJ in San Angelo. She decided to leave San Angelo after graduation to return home and accepted an MMJ job in Corpus Christi. After a few months in Corpus, she decided to leave the TV station and pursue a career in education, teaching Spanish 1 and coaching cross country and track at her alma mater, Refugio High School. It was a fun year, but her heart led her back to broadcasting, and she is now thrilled to be in Amarillo. Her interests include fishing, watching movies, collecting mugs, and exercising.

KGNC-TV was the first television station to sign on in the Amarillo market, debuting two weeks before the market’s CBS affiliate, KFDA-TV (channel 10). Channel 4 has been an NBC television affiliate since its inception, owing to KGNC radio’s long-standing relationship with the progenitor NBC Red Network. It was also affiliated with the DuMont Television Network on a secondary basis. The station was a member of the NTA Film Network until it was decommissioned in 1961. On November 5, that year, KAMR-call TV’s letters were changed from KGNC-TV to KAMR in order to comply with an FCC rule in effect at the time that prohibited separately owned radio and TV stations from sharing the same base call letters.

The station’s decline occurred during a period when NBC’s ratings were otherwise strong due to its prime-time programming (including its Thursday night comedy lineup). The fact that NBC also had partial broadcast rights to the NFL’s American Football Conference didn’t help matters (which it continued to broadcast through 1997 when those rights shifted to CBS). Quorum Broadcasting announced the purchase of KAMR-TV from Cannan on January 5, 1999. Quorum Broadcasting announced on January 5, 1999, that it would purchase KAMR-TV from Cannan Communications as part of a $64 million three-station deal. The following day, Mission Broadcasting announced a $13 million acquisition of KCIT and KCPN-LP from Wichita Falls-based Wicks Broadcast Group. On February 23, 1999, the FCC approved the sale to Quorum; KAMR was the senior partner in the transaction, and it vacated its longtime studio facility on North Polk Street and relocated its operations seven months later.
