Angelica Carrillo is an Emmy-Award-Winning Anchor/Reporter/Multimedia Journalist working with KOLD News 13 & FOX 11 News as a Morning Anchor. She has been working with the KOLD News team since the month of April year 2016.
Angelica Carrillo Education
Angelica had planned to attend medical school until she walked into her first newsroom at KOAT-TV in Albuquerque. She graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She would go on to intern there for three years until she graduated.
Angelica Carrillo Career
Carrillo works with KOLD News 13 team where she has been working since April 2016. The desert southwest is home for her and was born in the border town of Douglas, Arizona, and raised up a few hours from Tucson in Silver City, New Mexico. She wears many hats at KOLD which range from breaking news in the live center to the anchor desk, reporting out in the field to weather forecasting. She has always been ready to help the team wherever she is needed.
Prior to joining KOLD, she was working for several years in the Pacific Northwest. Carrillo got her start in TV news working as a multimedia Journalist on the Southern Oregon coast at KCBY-TV in Coos Bay. This was before later working as a Weekend Anchor/Weather Forecaster for the CBS & NBC affiliates in Eugene. Previously, she was on track to go to medical school and had a change of heart when she walked into her first newsroom at KOAT in Albuquerque.
She has also been recognized for excellence in journalism winning several awards for her work traveling along both sides of the U.S./Mexican border. Asides from that, she reported from Tijuana, Mexico during the heart of the 2018 Migrant Caravans covering the immigration and humanitarian crisis that followed. Since then, she has also reported from different communities along the entire southern border.
Her extensive coverage of border issues has garnered several awards which include the prestigious Regional Edward. R Murrow Award, an award from the Associated Press for continuing coverage of her series: Crisis on the Border, and two Rocky Mountain Regional Emmys. The year 2016 also saw her earn a Northwest Regional Emmy Award for her contributing coverage of the tragic Umpqua Community College shooting in Oregon.
Carrillo is also happy to be back home and close to family in Southern Arizona. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new restaurants and breweries around town, playing with her adopted pup, Gustavo, and cooking.
