Art Rascon is an American Emmy award-winning news anchor for ABC affiliate KTRK in Houston, Texas since joining the station in September 1998. He is the anchor of the 11 am, 5 pm, and 6 pm newscasts.
Art Rascon Education
Rascon attended Green Mountain High School just outside Denver. He then started his college studies at Brigham Young University Idaho in 1980.
He served a mission for his faith, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and later returned to his studies at Brigham Young University in Utah. Rascon also spent six months in Madrid, Spain studying European political science, History, Humanities, and the Arts. He graduated from BYU in 1985. While in college, he worked as a reporter for KBYU-FM and KBYU-TV.

He has covered such major events as wars and conflicts in Iraq, the Balkans, the Caribbean, throughout the Middle East, and Central America, traveling with scores of juvenile immigrants on their deadly trek to the U.S. border.
Rascon has reported widely on U.S. Presidential elections, the Virginia Tech campus shooting, terrorist attacks both at home and abroad, and a host of hurricanes that have hit the Gulf Coast, and the Eastern seaboard including Katrina and Ike. He has covered other natural disasters throughout the world including the tsunami in Indonesia and was among the first journalists to report out of Haiti after the earthquake.
He joined abc13 from CBS NEWS where he worked as a correspondent, reporting on Haiti’s civil unrest, Peru’s hostage standoff, Mexico’s guerrilla wars, various school shootings, hurricanes throughout the Caribbean, and the US, and other more international stories.

From ’89 to ’94, he was a reporter at KABC-TV in Los Angeles, where he covered notable events like the Rodney King beating trial, the O.J. Simpson case, the L.A. riots, the Branch Davidian stand-off, and also earthquakes, fires, and floods. He earlier worked as a reporter, producer, and anchor in San Antonio, El Paso, Abilene, and Salt Lake City.
