Ashlei King Biography

Ashlei King is an American Anchor working with FOX 16 News where she serves the station as a co-anchor for FOX16’s Good Day Morning Program and as a weekday Reporter for KARK 4 News. She has been working with FOX 16 News since the month of July 2018.

King works with FOX 16 News where she serves the station as a co-anchor for the station’s Good Day Morning Program and as a Reporter for KARK 4 News as a weekday Reporter. The San Antonio, Texas native comes to Arkansas from her hometown where she was working at KABB FOX 29 for about four years.

While she was there, she was nominated for an Emmy for her work on a documentary highlighting the city’s Martin Luther King Junior March, which is the largest in the country. She is privileged to have won a National Association of Black Journalists award for the documentary.

King is a proud graduate of the University of Texas in Austin where she obtained a Bachelor of Journalism degree. In her freshman year at UT, she was privileged to be a member of the co-ed cheerleading squad. There, she was cheering for the Texas Longhorns football team and men’s basketball team. Asides from that, she also ran hurdles for two years on the UT Track & Field team.

She kicked off her broadcasting career in Austin where she was serving as the CBS affiliate’s UT reporter. Asides from that, she was also the Assistant News Director for Texas Student Television’s KVR News. Later on, after her graduation, she worked for KTXS in Abilene.

In her time in Abilene, she won a Texas Associated Press Award for deadline editing. She had also spent two years in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she was working for the CBS affiliate. While she was in Tulsa she covered a variety of stories from tornadoes to devastating wildfires that torched hundreds of homes. Among her most memorable moment was when she did a live interview on CNN with Don Lemon about a racially motivated shooting spree in Tulsa.

The Italy native spent her childhood in Germany. She, however, has deep-seated roots in Arkansas. Her King side of the family is originally from Southeast Arkansas(Dermott, McGehee, and Monticello area. Asides from that, she states that she has a family that lives in the area. Her fun fact is that she is related to music icon Michael Jackson. His grandma and great-grandpa were first cousins.

King is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Away from work. she enjoys hanging out with her family working off the calories at the gym, and eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants.
