Bella Michaels is an American journalist working for KRGV as a weekend news anchor and weekday news reporter. She joined the station in September 2021 after receiving her Master’s degree from DePaul University.

Bella Michaels Education

Michaels joined DePaul University after finishing her high school education. In 2020, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. While in college, she worked as a production assistant for WTTW’s Chicago Tonight with Carol Marin and Don Moseley. Further, she interned at the Chicago Tribune as a contributor and reporter for the 2018 World Cup. Additionally, she was a freelancer at beIN Sports in Miami and a writer for the DePaulia newspaper.

Michaels hosted her radio show, “Talk Soccer to Me,” at Radio DePaul. In 2020, she covered the NBA All-Star in Chicago, where she interviewed stars like Charles Barkley, Luka Doncic, and Trae Young. She furthered her studies and received her Master’s degree in Journalism from DePaul University.

Michaels won a Journalism Outstanding Achievement Award as a graduate student of the year in 2021. As a graduate student, she worked as a graduate assistant for the broadcast journalism program. Moreover, she worked closely with the DePaul Men’s basketball team and was vice president of the school’s Italian Club at College of DuPage. In high school, she spent most of her time singing and performing in theater.

After relocating to the Rio Grande Valley, Michaels developed her passion for creating significant bonds with the sports community members by sharing emotional feature stories. She created a series named “Coffee with Coaches,” where she with coaches about their personal or emotional experiences outside of their sport while having coffee.

Michaels’s passion for feature storytelling steered her towards the news side of the industry. A previous multimedia journalist, she uses her multilingual skills to break barriers and share more impactful stories within the RGV community. She serves as a member of the Mass Communications/Journalism Committee at College of DuPage.
