Andrew Chung Biography

Andrew Chung is an American meteorologist working for KRGV as a meteorologist since rejoining the station in November 2023. His first tenure with the station was from July 2015 to June 2022. After leaving the station, he briefly served DoorLoop as a video content creator.

Andrew Chung Education

Chung joined Florida State University in 1998 after finishing his high school education. In 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology with a minor in Mathematics. Additionally, he did some graduate work at the school.

Chung works for KRGV as a meteorologist. This is his second tenure with the station, as he worked for the station from July 2015 to June 2022. He left the station and briefly served DoorLoop as a video content creator. He has a broad forecasting experience in Florida and three different parts of Texas. During his first stint at the station, he became a bilingual meteorologist in January 2018, doing Spanish language weather for the newscasts on KRGV’s Hechos Valle and English language weather on Channel 5.

After completing his graduate studies, Chung kickstarted his professional career at Florida’s News Channel in Tallahassee in 2001. In 2004, he relocated to Texas, where he served KBTV in Beaumont/Port Arthur as a meteorologist. During his time at KBTV, he forecasted tropical storms and hurricanes and obtained the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society.

Chung left Southeast Texas in 2008 and joined the weather team at KVIA in El Paso. During his time in El Paso, he forecasted multiple weather events, including dust storms and snow. He took a weather position at KVUE in Austin in 2010, getting the opportunity to forecast ice storms and flash flooding. He spent over four years in Central Texas before relocating to the Rio Grande and joining the KRGV weather team.
