Mueller started working at WKRN in 1984 as a news co-anchor of 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts and also hosts the Sunday morning political show ”This Week with Bob Mueller.” He started off as a field reporter covering the State Capitol. Mueller has earned numerous honors and distinctions within his reporting duration consisting of ten Emmy Awards. He is also a member of the Silver Circle reserved for those working in broadcast journalism for over 25 years. Bob started his broadcasting career while in high school, serving as a radio news reporter/disc jockey. In college, he followed his interest in radio, earning more experience in the field as a news and sports reporter and finally as the station’s news director.
He started in television as a reporter, producer, and anchor at WMDB-TV in Peoria, Illinois. Mueller was also an investigative reporter and state government reporter and anchor when he served for WTVC-TV in Chattanooga. He is popular for bringing his viewers major historical events such as covering the first space shuttle launch in 1981.
He also was the first reporter to talk to Jimmy Carter about the release of the hostage in Iran, and he was present when President Jimmy Carter returned to Plains, Georgia, after leaving the White House. Aside from covering several Democratic and Republican Presidential Conventions and 2 Presidential Inaugurations, Bob has brought his audiences one on one interviews with Jimmy Carter, Ronal Reagan, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Al Gore, and George H.W. Bush.

Mueller has also been honored with 6 National Communicator Awards, and 8 National Telly Awards, and for his investigative reporting. He has also been declared a winner of the coveted George Foster Peabody National Award. Mueller has earned awards from International, United Press, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA), and the Associated Press. In 2018, he was initiated into the Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame.

Bob is an active member of Middle Tennessee and has been acknowledged for assisting the community. For 6 years, he was a member of the board of trustees for the Second Harvest Food Bank which aims at feeding the hungry, and has presently been an active member for the last 30 years. He has served as a member of the scout committee and for more than 17 years, Bob has served with the Boy Scouts. Bob also serves as a member of the advisory board of the Nashville Mental Illness Organization. In his charity/celebrity golf tournaments, he has served with country music singer Vince Gill, During his coverage of The Vinny, Bob has been helpful in raising awareness and funding raising more than $5 million.
Mueller has also hosted his own tournaments for 25 years. More than $1,500,000 has been raised by the Bob Mueller M.S. Celebrity Challenge to fight M.S. For the past 20 years, Mueller has been a member of the Nashville Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Board of Trust. For 3 years, he has worked as a member of the Board of Trust for Rocketown of Nashville. In 2009, Mueller was honored to be instated in the Highland High School Hall of Fame and also to be awarded 4 TEA School Bell Awards.
