Bob Werner Biography
Bob Werner is an American meteorologist working for WSBT 22 News in South Bend, Indiana. He joined the station in 1995 and serves as the meteorologist.

Werner attended his high school in Nebraska where he graduated with his High School Diploma. From there, he joined the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago to pursue his course. After finishing his studies there, he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He is also a registered professional engineer.

Werner is a meteorologist at WSBT News in South Bend, Indiana. He serves the station as a meteorologist. Werner auditioned for a part-time job as a weathercaster at WNDU-TV in 1978, where he worked prior to joining the WSBT 22 Weather team. He worked there for seventeen years. When joining WNDU-TV, he was hired as a backup to legendary local weathercaster Dick Addis.
Apart from his career in meteorology, he also did math and science training. The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has recognized him as a meteorologist and a full Member of the Society for his rigorous training in math and science. In 1988, he earned the AMS Seal of Approval for the highlights of his weather career. He also has the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation, the highest distinction given to a broadcast meteorologist which he was awarded in 2010.
Throughout his journalism career, he has covered many major stories. The most memorable story of all he covered was the great blizzard of January 1978. This was just a few days after his first TV audition. Werner says that the toughest parts of his job are forecasting problems presented by Michiana’s “lake-affected” weather and dealing with the time pressure of live television.
He advises people who want to get into broadcasting to study hard, to be prepared to live on slim wages, especially at the start, and to be realistic about their talent. During his leisure time, he likes spending quality with his family, golfing, softball, long-distance running, astronomy, as well as reading. He is a mechanical engineer and has worked at Notre Dame in the utility department.
