After graduating from high school, she attended Purdue University where she graduated in 1947, majoring in media broadcasting as well as psychology. There, she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, Gold Peppers, Purdue Playshop, and the WBAA staff.

She works for NBC 5 as an Entertainment Reporter and Critic. She started her journalism career in 1948 at NBC 5. By then, NBC 5 was known as WBAP-TV. Her hiring occurred two weeks before the station began broadcasting. At the station, she began as a writer creating copy for commercials, intros to shows, and whatever was needed to be written. Later, she worked in front of cameras helping hosts or programs. In 1960, she gained her own talk program, Dateline after she filled in for a week when the original host was sick with the flu. On the program, she interviewed a variety of guests on it. This made her the first woman in the southwest United States to host a general interest talk program.

After a change in station ownership around 1975, she began working in the news department, particularly teaming with Chip Moody on Inside Area 5. Beginning in 1977, she was co-host of the local component of The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. Bobbie is a founding member of the National Broadcast Film Critics Association. Her most challenging on-air experience was November 22, 1963, when her 30-minute talk show was interrupted six or seven times with bulletins about the John F. Kennedy assassination. Following each announcement she was instructed to “pick up where you left off”. Over the course of her television career, she has interviewed hundreds of celebrities. These include; The Beatles, Madonna, Bob Hope, and Bette Davis.

Throughout her career, she has won local, regional, and national awards. Her local and regional awards include the Texas Arts Alliance’s award for outstanding coverage of the arts in 1978, and being named the Zonta Club of Fort Worth’s executive woman of the year in 1980. Nationally, she was presented with the Critic’s Critic Award by the National Broadcast Film Critics Association in 2000. In 2004, she received the Emmy Gold Circle. In 2014, she won the Gracie Award for Outstanding Reporter/Correspondent from the Alliance for Women in Media.
