Brandon Wholey Biography

Brandon Wholey is an American meteorologist and pilot working at KJRH where he serves as a drone pilot and the weekdays at noon and weekend evenings meteorologist. He joined the  KJRH team in December 2015, after previously working at KRNV where he served as a chief meteorologist.

In 2002, Wholey joined Tacoma Community College where he graduated with an Associate in Arts and Sciences in 2005. Later on, he studied at Lyndon State College where he earned a bachelor of arts in television news and meteorology in 2008.

Wholey works at KJRH where he serves as the weekday at noon and weekend evenings meteorologist. Gig Harbor, Washington is his native home and he previously worked at KRNV, the NBC affiliate in Reno, Nevada where the served as the chief meteorologist from 2008 to 2015. While he worked at KRNV, he tracked severe thunderstorms, drought, flash flooding, wildfires, earthquakes, and snowstorms.

In addition, he was also very active in the community, as he would visit schools often to talk with students about my job and the weather and volunteer at charitable events. Brandon appeared a few times on The Weather Channel and he was featured NBC affiliate meteorologist in a prime-time documentary.

In addition, he was among the few television meteorologists who were hand-picked in 2016, to test out new forecasting algorithms in conjunction with the GOES-R satellite. They were to use the new lightning detection capabilities on board the satellite to see if severe thunderstorms becoming stronger or weakening.

The test was done at the National Weather Center in Norman during a workshop. Furthermore, Brandon is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the group awarded him with its Certificate of Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval.
