Keefe attended North Haven High School in 1982 where he graduated with a diploma in 1986. He was also a co-founder of a student TV news program and co-chair of Model Congress. After high school, Brendan enrolled at Kenyon College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1990. During his period there, he worked for KCTV and was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma.

Prior to joining WANF News, Brendan spent seven years and eleven months working at WXIA as a multi-skilled journalist and chief investigator. For his work, he was honored with several awards including five more National Murrow Awards, the Peabody Award, and the TEGNA Pinnacle Award.

Before working at WXIA-TV, Keefe served as a senior multi-media journalist at The E.W. Scripps Company from October 2012 to September 2014. Previously, he spent seven years working for WCPO-TV as a chief investigator and evening anchor from October 2007 to September 2014. During his time at WCPO-TV, he was in charge of leading the investigative reports, writing, producing, and editing videos.

Earlier, Brendon worked for WCBS News as a correspondent from February 2003 to October 2007. He also covered ranging news including the terrorist bombings of commuter trains in Madrid, the NYC Blackout, and Hurricane Katrina which earned him awards. Before this, Keefe served as a reporter at KPRC-TV from October 1997 to November 2002. As a reporter, he reported the Clinton impeachment hearings, numerous hurricanes, and Houston floods. On top of this, he also covered the three serial killers, the Space Shuttle program, and Capitol shootings.

Keefe began his career at WFSB TV working as an anchor and reporter from October 1995 to October 1997. Prior to working at WFSB TV, he served as a reporter at WJXT in Jacksonville, Florida. Before that, Brendan spent one year serving as a reporter at WWMT-TV3 from October 1992 to January 1994. Besides that, he worked as a Photographer, anchor, and reporter at WREX from February 1991 to October 1992.
