Brian Bailey Biography
Brian Bailey is an American journalist working for WNCT as an anchor and the sports director for 9 On Your Side. He joined the station in October 1984 as a news reporter and weekend sports anchor.

Bailey joined Old Dominion University in 1980 after finishing his high school education. In 1984, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Letters degree in Speech Communications.

Bailey works for WNCT as the sports director for 9 On Your Side. He was promoted to that role in April 1986. He also anchors 9 On Your Side at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. In addition, he produces and hosts Touchdown Friday, the longest-running high school football show in the region.
Upon joining WNCT, Bailey initially worked as a news reporter and weekend sports anchor. He launched his broadcasting career in Chesapeake, Virginia, covering high school football and basketball games for local radio and cable TV.
Bailey’s work earned him the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas TV Sportscaster of the Year Award in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2025. He has won 22 North Carolina Associated Press Awards. East Carolina University named him the Professional Broadcaster of the Year in 1988.
Bailey was inducted into the prestigious George Whitfield Hall of Fame in 2023. His community service has earned him honors from the Pitt-Greenville Special Olympics, the North Carolina High School Baseball Coaches, the Pitt-Greenville Hot Stove League, the Raleigh Hot Stove League, the North Carolina Special Olympics, and the City of Greenville.
Bailey sat on the board of directors for the Greenville Chapter of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. He has worked with Special Olympics in Pitt County and Beau’s Buddies, a cancer awareness group. Every year, he has worked as an MC for the ‘Walk to Defeat ALS’ and other regional fundraisers.
Bailey worked as the coach of the Carolina Diamonds, a fastpitch travel team from 1999 to 2005. Since 2006, he has been the coach of the WNCT-TV team in the Exceptional Community Baseball League for special-needs children. He also sits on the advisory board of the ECBL.
