Bryan Busby is an American Meteorologist working with KMBC 9 News where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist and joined the station in the year 1985. Prior to KMBC 9 News, he was working with Chiefs Fox Football Radio Network where he worked as a Chief Meteorologist between July 2007 and January 2013.

Prior to KMBC 9 News, he was working as a Chief Meteorologist for The Chiefs Fox Football Radio Network. He is also heard on NewsRadio 980 and 98.1 FM, KMBZ. He has put KMBC-TV on the “weather map” with innovative programs like “Guaranteed Weather,” EarthStation,” “Instant Weather Network,” “Bryan Goes to School,” and “Weather-To-Go.”

For him, interaction, fun, and community outreach are key ingredients that make him the City’s favorite television personality. He was also named Chairman of the committee between 1997 and 1998. His interest in the weather began when he was in Cleveland, Ohio when he was a child. When he was studying the weather, he realized that television was for him. During his high school, he was a broadcast weather reporter for two Cleveland-based radio stations. He began working in radio where he obtained a degree in meteorology from St. Louis University.

He kick-started his television career working as a weatherman at the age of 17. The year 1978 saw him kick-start his career working with KTVI, Channel 2 in St. Louis. Despite working as an intern, he was on the air after only eight weeks at the station working as a weekend weathercaster. He also remained in St. Louis for about eight years before later joining KMBC 9 News. He states that he will keep doing TV weather until it is not fun anymore for him. This is a few years down the road.

His performance is not limited to television. He also works as the principal timpanist for the Kansas City Civic Orchestra. This was while performing five or six times a year. Busby professionally works as principal timpanist with the Kinnor Philharmonic (the artist in residence at the Jewish Community Center) and served as the solo timpanist with the Independence Messiah Festival Orchestra applying the group’s annual performance of the Messiah at the Community of Christ Auditorium between 1992 until the orchestra’s last year in the year 2005. He has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, and the Kansas City Percussion Quartet, and performed with timpani instructor to many of the area’s best student musicians.

Asides from performing and teaching, he is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Kansas City Youth Symphony, having conducted that group in Yardley Hall at Johnson County Community College. He has also worked at Kemper Arena, the United States Pavilion at the 1992 World’s Fair in Seville, Spain, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. His Youth Symphony activities have also appeared as guest conductors in area symphonies, community orchestras, bands, and high schools.

Asides from his musical abilities, he is known by friends to be a terrific imitator of cartoon voices. He is also the voice of his own cartoon character Georgie Global, a feature that has appeared on the Web, on television, and in newspapers across the country. Asides from this, he also provides all the voices for the pig, horse, and bull in the American Royal Television commercials. In order to further a hobby, he also began in grade school and plans to pursue a job doing voice-overs when he retires from broadcasting.
