Carolyn Murray Biography

Carolyn Murray is an American Emmy Award-Winning journalist working for WCBD as an  Anchor / Reporter. She joined the station back in 2003 serving as an evening anchor

Carolyn Murray Education

Murray is a 1984 graduate of Burke High School in Charleston. She, later on, went to the University of South Carolina in Columbia and graduated in 1988. She is also a Riley Fellow, a member of the Diversity Leaders Institute class of 2010.

Carolyn Murray Career

Murray co-anchors the 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm editions of Count On News 2 on WCBD-TV in Charleston. She also co-anchors the 10 pm news on the Lowcountry CW Network, digital channel 2.2. Her career started when she worked for  WPAL-AM in 1988 in Charleston where she served as the news and public affairs director. She then moved to WMGL-FM in 1989 where she served as the news director.

During the same year, she moved to WCSC-TV where she served as a reporter and news anchor and worked for the station for 12 years. She then moved to Chicago in 2001 and started working for WBBM-TV where she served as a consumer reporter. She then came back to Charleston and started working as an evening anchor for WCBD-TV in 2003.

Murray is an empathetic and effective storyteller and has also managed to interview people of high profile including entertainers, former astronauts, and NASA Administrator Charles Bolden (USMC-Ret.). Oprah Winfrey, baseball legend Hank Aaron, the late Coretta Scott King, and U.S. Congressman John Lewis are also some of the people she interviewed. She also had the opportunity to interview U.S. President Bill Clinton, U.S. Secretary of State, and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. She nonetheless flew with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and The U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

Murray also serves on quite a number of boards like The City of Charleston Health and Wellness Committee, and The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Neurosciences Advisory Board. The International African American Museum, Tricounty Family Ministries, The First Tee of Greater Charleston, and The Charleston Animal Society. She has previously served on the Junior League of Charleston, the Junior League Community Advisory Board, the Charleston Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, The MUSC Nursing School Advisory Board, and Youth and Families (City of Charleston). She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
