Casanova Nurse is an American Meteorologist working with WTXL-TV where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist for WTXLFirstAlert since the year 2018. After broadcast training at Tampa TV stations WTVT and WFLA, he worked at WTXL-TV in the year 2003 as a weekend meteorologist.

Casanova received his bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of South Florida and his meteorology certification from Mississippi State University. After receiving broadcast training at Tampa TV stations WTVT and WFLA, Casanova began working as a weekend meteorologist at WTXL-TV in 2003.

Nurse works with WTXL-TV where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist for WTXLFirstAlert. He later manned the weekday morning shift for three years before accepting a weekend meteorologist position at CW affiliate KIAH-TV located in Houston, Texas in the year 2006. Nurse returned to ABC27 HD as a Chief Meteorologist in the year 2008.

In his career, he has covered all types of weather scenarios, which include numerous hurricane threats. Asides from this, he has also reported thorough local and national coverage of the active hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005. He has also reported from the scenes of several of those storms which include hurricanes Jeanne, Katrina, and Dennis.

Asides from this, he also guided Texas viewers during the landfall of Hurricane Ike in 2008. This is in addition to covering local viewers and users more recently with multi-hour coverage of hurricanes Hermine and Michael when they struck the Big Bend and Panhandle regions.

Together with the weather team, they set the standards for local severe weather coverage during the March 3rd, 2012 severe weather outbreak with continuous live monitoring and tracking of tornadic thunderstorms. This includes one in Lanier County which produced significant damage. This standard is upheld through subsequent severe storm events, with coverage performed extensively on air and through several digital and mobile platforms.

He also earned many honors over the years from being ABC27’s Employee of the Year in 2005 and being recognized by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters in 2007 in the Major Market Best Weathercast category. Asides from this, he is Florida’s Best Weathercast from the Florida AP Broadcasters in 2013 and first-place acclaim for the annual tropical season preparedness program series “Hurricane.” The readers of a local print publication voted Cas as the “Best of Tallahassee” TV Personality in the year 2019.

He is designated as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society and is the first and only in the Tallahassee market to achieve this higher standard of AMS approval. His expertise is not limited to tropical weather and is also a forecaster for a Minnesota radio station. He is active outside the weather center and heavily involved in the community through education, children’s initiatives, and weather preparedness.

Away from work, he is current events and history buff who collects ’80s memorabilia and also enjoys computer technology and participating in community projects. He has also taken a recent focus on personal health, well-being, and fitness. He also resides in Tallahassee with his spouse and adopted children, and is thrilled to connect with the people of Northern Florida and Southern Georgia.
