Chris Sutter Biography

Chris Sutter is an American Emmy award-winning journalist currently working as the Midday and 6 pm news anchor and reporter at WDRB News. He anchors the news every weekday at 11:30 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. on WDRB.

Chris Sutter Career

His broadcasting career began when he was in sixth grade. After repeated phone calls, the News Director at NBC-TV in South Bend, Indiana, agreed to let Chris work as a “Kid Reporter.” Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Chris returned to television after a brief stint in pop radio in South Bend and Indianapolis. Hearing Britney Spears several times per hour can be exhausting. Chris previously worked at WILX in Lansing, Michigan, and WLEX in Lexington, Kentucky.

He has covered everything from presidential visits to a vice presidential debate to the riots that erupted following UK’s NCAA Championship victory. Chris has been recognized for his work in Kentucky with Emmy and SPJ awards. When Chris isn’t on the air, you can find him at one of his sons’ baseball games or dining at one of the area’s fine restaurants.

WDRB (UHF digital channel 32) is a Fox-affiliated television station licensed to Louisville, Kentucky, in the United States. Block Communications owns the station as part of a duopoly with Salem, Indiana-licensed dual CW/MyNetworkTV affiliate WBKI (channel 58). The two stations share studios in downtown Louisville on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard (near US 150); WDRB’s transmitter is in rural northeastern Floyd County, Indiana (northeast of Floyds Knobs). Charter Spectrum channel 9 is where you can find the station on cable.

Robert Rounsaville, owner of WLOU (1350 AM), Louisville’s first Black-oriented radio station, received the first construction permit for channel 41 in 1953. It would take nearly five years for any station to go on the air. Delays were caused by antenna height issues and permitting setbacks for the new WDRB-TV and a channel 21 permittee. On February 28, 1971, the station became the first independent station in the Louisville market. In 1970, Louisville’s WDRB-TV debuted on the airwaves with a mix of cartoons, westerns, outdoor shows, and classic films.
