Christina Watkins is an American journalist working for WESH as a weekend anchor on WESH 2 News Sunrise since joining the station in March 2022. Previously, she served WESH’s sister station in New Orleans, WDSU, for 4 years as a weekday anchor for WDSU News at Noon and 4 p.m.

Watkins works for WESH as a weekend anchor on WESH 2 News Sunrise. Joining the station means a lot to her since her late sister was a “Kid Anchor” on the station in the late 90s. This inspired Watkins very much. When she was 7, her late sister went behind the camera and recorded her as she pretended to be a reporter for WESH. She is humbled that her dream is now a reality.

Watkins previously served WESH’s sister station in New Orleans, WDSU, for 4 years. There, she was a weekday anchor for WDSU News at Noon and 4 p.m. In New Orleans, Watkins broadcaster everything including severe weather, breaking news, festivals, and Mardi Gras. She also fell in love with all things New Orleans, including the Saints and Pelicans, and considers the region as her second home.

Watkins worked in Charlotte before her time in New Orleans. There, she was an anchor and reporter for Spectrum News for three years. Additionally, she traveled to be on the scene of big stories like the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando and Super Bowl 50 in California. Her broadcasting career started in Missouri where she anchored and reported for KQ2 News in St. Joseph.

Away from the newsroom, Watkins loves giving back to the community, mentoring, and hosting community occasions. She is also passionate about mental awareness awareness and is on the board of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Orlando (NAMIGO). She is always on the lookout for methods to remove the stigma and remind people it’s OK not to be OK. Further, she is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
