Chuck Lofton Biography
Chuck Lofton is an American meteorologist working for WTHR as a broadcast meteorologist and feature reporter. He joined the station in September 1985 and has served the station for more than 3 decades.

Lofton joined Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1975 when he finished his high school education. In 1979, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.

Lofton works for WTHR as a broadcast meteorologist and feature reporter. Since 1985, he has forecasted on 13News Sunrise starting the days of families, students, and Hoosiers of every walk of life for decades. His forecasts have been heard on “Jim, Deb, and Kevin” on 95.5 WFMS-FM in Indy since 2000.
Since 1987, Lofton has been featured on the Morning Show on 104.1 WLBC in Muncie on weekday mornings. For his journalism work, he has won 5 Emmys and has received awards from the Associated Press, United Press International, and the Society Of Professional Journalists.
The National Weather Association named him the National Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2017. Despite the awards and his role at Channel 13, he feels that protecting people during severe weather is the most significant part of his job.
During his career, Lofton has broadcasted everything including snow storms, tornadoes, the Royal Wedding in Windsor England, the Indianapolis 500, the 2017 lunar eclipse International Space Station at Kennedy Space Center, Brickyard 400, Colts and Pacers, and Premier League Soccer.
Through WTHR’s Chuck’s Big Adventure program, Lofton travels around the country, displaying the spotlights of trips Hoosiers may take on their vacations. Before WTHR, he worked for WFIE in Evansville, Indiana as a weathercaster and general assignment reporter. During his time in Evansville, he provided play-by-play for college basketball, football, and baseball.
Lofton frequently speaks at churches, civic firms, and churches. His community service earned him the Prodigy of Indianapolis honor. For over 3 decades, he has worked as an MC in Central Indiana for firms like the Eiteljorg Museum, Overseas Council, Hope Healthcare Services, the American Heart Association, Noble Centers, and Damar Centers.,
Lofton has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the downtown Good News Missionthe downtown Good News Mission by hosting the “Good News Open” for nearly 20 years. He now works as the Voice Of The 500 Festival Parade and actively participates in May activities in Indianapolis.
Lofton has also worked on advisory boards for the Broadcast Meteorology Department at Mississippi State University and Moody Broadcasting in Indianapolis. He now serves on the advisory boards of the Salvation Army. He previously worked as the national recertification chairman at the National Weather Association.
Lofton is grateful for being involved in Christian leadership in various roles since he was a teen. Previously, he worked on the Board Of Directors for Kingsway Christian School in Avon. In 2010, Taylor University named him an honorary alum. Indiana Wesleyan University received a Presidential Citation in 2016.
