Cindy Hsu is a Chinese American Emmy Award-winning television news reporter and anchor currently working as an anchor and reporter who has been at CBS 2 News in New York City since 1993.
Cindy Hsu Career
With various honors, Hsu’s work at CBS 2 has been honored. Recently, by the NY &NJ Asian-American Law Enforcement Agency, Hsu was awarded “Reporter of the Year.” Nominated for an Emmy Award, her personal adoption story, “Bringing Rosie Home,” won the New York AP Broadcasters Award for Best Feature. For Smuggled from China, which revealed the tragic plight of Chinese refugees from the Golden Venture ferry, and for her live coverage of the 1994 snowstorm, she won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Single Hard News Report.
She was awarded the Golden Apple Award by American Women in Radio and Television, and also won the Friends of Adoption Award from the Foster Parents Committee. Hsu served as a reporter and anchor at WFRV-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and for WTOV-TV in Steubenville, Ohio, prior to joining WCBS-TV. In Richmond, Virginia, she began her broadcasting career as an associate producer for WTVR-TV.
Hsu spends most of her off-duty time doing voluntary service and is deeply engaged with the community of Asia-America. She is a Big Sister and has worked on the APEX Advisory Board, a community that puts together Asian practitioners who seek advice from new immigrants and young people. She has served on the board of directors of the Museum of the Chinese in the Americas and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, as well as the Journalism Fairness Oversight Newswatch Advisory Committee. Hsu was the co-chair of the annual event Cooks for Girls, which raises funds for children living with AIDS and HIV, and she is actively engaged with The Miracle Network for Children.
Hsu is also a former President of the Asian American Journalists Association’s New York Branch. Hsu is also a dragon boater of the world-class, sailing with her squad Women in Canoe. In the 2001 World Championship, they represented the United States. She graduated with a degree in Information Studies from Virginia Tech.
