Clare Huddleston Biography
Clare Huddleston is an American journalist currently working as an anchor and reporter for WBRC FOX6 News. She joined the WBRC FOX6 News team in October 2011. She had previously spent ten years in Tuscaloosa.
Clare Huddleston Career
Clare earned a magna cum laude degree in Broadcast News and Spanish from the University of Alabama. Clare had the opportunity to report, produce, and anchor at the local station WVUA-TV while a student at the Capstone.
Huddleston accepted a full-time reporter and anchor position at WVUA-TV after graduation. Clare covered several major stories in Tuscaloosa, including the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak, Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina, the trial of convicted Fayette County cop killer Devin Moore, and Alabama football coach Nick Saban’s hiring. Clare’s reporting has earned her several Associated Press awards, including Best News Anchor, Best Spot News Story, Best Sports Feature, and Best Sports Story. Clare enjoys running, traveling, and volunteering in her spare time. Her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, has her as a national volunteer.
WBRC-TV was Alabama’s second-oldest television station, having debuted just over a month after WAFM-TV (channel 13, now WVTM-TV) on May 29. The Birmingham Broadcasting Company, run by Eloise D. Hanna, originally owned it, along with WBRC radio. In June 1999, the suffix “TV” was removed from its call letters. WBRC-TV was an NBC affiliate at first, with secondary affiliations with ABC and DuMont. The station was briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network in the late 1950s.
The station’s transmitter was designed originally for radio station WBRC-FM (102.5, now WBPT at 106.9 FM; original frequency now occupied by WDXB). In 1954, the WBRC stations relocated to a new, much larger studio facility on Red Mountain. The structure, like many others built by Storer to serve as broadcast studios, resembled an antebellum mansion. Storer gave educational television two transmitters and frequencies in the Birmingham market in 1954.
