Dan Kleckner is an Emmy-award-winning retired sports anchor who was well known for his time at KHQ-TV where he served as a sports director. He joined the KHQ news team in April 1985, as a sports anchor.

Kleckner was working for KHQ-TV serving the team as a Sports Anchor. As part of the KHQ, 6 Questions series, Dan asked challenging questions of political, business, and other leaders and newsmakers over the years. Dan’s work at KHQ has changed over time, from Sports Director to Morning News Anchor, Evening News Anchor, and now a new program called Connect with Kleck, in which he answers reader questions, concerns, comments, and story ideas.
He was elected into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Silver Circle for broadcast achievement in 2014. The Silver Circle honors media professionals who began their careers in television at least 25 years ago, whether in a performing, creative, technical, or administrative capacity within the industry or in a field related to television such as TV journalism education, advertising, and promotion, or public relations.
For at least part of their 25-year career, they must have made a substantial contribution to Northwest Chapter television. Since 1991, the Northwest Chapter of NATAS has honored and celebrated Silver Circle members.
His passion for sports extends beyond his 12 years as Sports Director at KHQ. Dan’s sports career highlights include traveling with the Gonzaga Bulldogs during their first NCAA appearance in 1995, carrying the Olympic Torch across the country to Atlanta in 1996, and meeting his boyhood idol, Chicago Bears Hall-of-Famer Gale Sayers, for a 6-question interview.
In addition, Kleckner couldn’t help but be a Bears and Cubs fan growing up in Chicago, despite the fact that the Windy City didn’t always see many victories. Dan became hooked on being a sportsperson when he was there. Kleckner enjoys volunteering for organizations such as Special Olympics, the SIDS Foundation, and Catholic Charities.
