Shortly after graduating from high school, Dan attended Pennsylvania State University where he graduated with a master’s and bachelor’s degrees in meteorology. During his time there, he worked for WPSX-TV as a meteorologist. Later on, he worked as a lieutenant at the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. In addition, Thomas also received a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in May 2009.

Earlier, Dan worked for WDSU-TV, the NBC affiliate in New Orleans where he worked as a meteorologist. He also covered a wide range of news including the 2004 Hurricane Frances and several tropical storms that struck the southeastern United States. For his work, he was recognized by the Louisiana Associated Press as the “First Place for Breaking Weather”.

Thomas began his broadcast career at KHBS/KHOG-TV in Fort Smith, Fayetteville where he served as a morning meteorologist. He also reported every weather event across eastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas, and several thunderstorms. His passion for weather sparked at the early age of six years. In addition, his remarkable coverage includes the devastation of Hurricane Katrina where he warned viewers of its destruction. He also covered the flooding storm which led to landfall and evacuated people.

Apart from working as a journalist, Dan also worked for Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta where he served as a military soldier. In 2000, he finished his military service where he served as a captain at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK. There, he led a group of 15 people before later switching his career to journalism.
