David Heckard Biography
David Heckard is an American meteorologist who has been working for WFTV as a meteorologist at Channel 9 since joining the station in September 2024. In this role, his weather forecasts appear on weekend evenings and at noon.
David Heckard Education
Heckard joined Purdue University in 2002 when he finished his high school education. In 2006, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Synoptic Meteorology. During college, he worked as a sports writer at Purdue Exponent.

Heckard won an Emmy nomination for his coverage of the Orlando tornado in 2020. He worked at WZVN in Fort Myers for 4 years. Recently, he and FEMA delivered crucial support during six big federally declared crises in Florida. He has the certified broadcast meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society. He found his passion for meteorology early, particularly thunderstorms and tornadoes.
