David Murphy Biography

David Murphy was an American weekday meteorologist for Action News Mornings (4:30 am-7 am) and Action News at Noon. He joined the station in the year 1990. 

David Murphy Education

Murphy attended Mississippi State University where he received a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology following four years of study in the atmospheric sciences and geosciences. He has earned Seals of Approval from both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.

Murphy has as well graduated from Temple University, Philadelphia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. He became the first Temple University student to win a national scholarship in 1984 from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.

David Murphy Career

Murphy joined WPVI-TV in 1990 working as a general assignment reporter. Before joining Action News, he worked as a reporter with WJZ-TV, Baltimore, Maryland, WNEP-TV Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania, WMAR-TV, Baltimore, Maryland, and with WFMZ-TV in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

As a weather reporter, he has covered hurricanes in North Carolina and Louisiana, and also a major tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. He has also produced Action News feature reports on many aspects of local Delaware Valley weather. His most memorable news assignments include the attacks against the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001 and the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing.

He is an active member of society and is involved with several local charities including annual fundraising efforts for the Delaware County Regional Cancer Center and the Parkinson Council. He is as well a long-time Phillies fan and can often be spotted with his children and friends at the ballpark.
