Demetria Green is an American journalist working for WAAY as a weekday anchor at 4 p.m. since joining the station in May 2023. Previously, she worked as a morning news anchor at PHL17 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Green joined Florida A&M University in 2000 after finishing her high school education. In 2004, she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance. In 2008, she joined Governor’s State University to further her studies, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Communications and Media Studies.

Green works for WAAY as a weekday anchor at 4 p.m. In this role, she anchors WAAY 31 Morning News every weekday starting at 4 p.m. This is her second time working at the station, having anchored and reported here from June 2014 to December 2018. During that time, she hosted the red carpet at the Country Music Awards in Nashville, flew to Washington to press politicians on local issues, and filed live reports from Atlanta, Georgia, when Alabama won the National Championship Game in 2018.
Green previously worked as a morning news anchor at PHL17 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There, she played a crucial role in expanding the morning news broadcast to shed light on educational woes, mental health matters, and people supporting others in the face of adversity. She was very inspired by the community to the point of starting a mentorship group for elementary students.
Before her first stint at WAAY31, Green was the morning anchor at WTVY in Dothan, Alabama. She serves as a member of the National Association for Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Aside from her work on TV, she she serves as an adjunct instructor at Calhoun Community College.
Green’s has earned her several honors, including an Associated Press Award for Best Series on “Alabama’s Immigration Debate.” She was inspired by award-winning journalists and their desire to tell gripping stories while growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. She hopes to continue that mission by chasing after the truth while highlighting the community’s successes and challenges.
