Emily Sutton Biography

Emily Sutton is an American broadcast meteorologist working for KFOR. She joined the 4Warn Storm Team in December 2009 and was also the first female meteorologist to work on the channel.

Sutton graduated with honors and dual degrees in Atmospheric Science and Media Convergence Journalism from the University of Missouri. She is also a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) by the American Meteorological Society and has been awarded the National Weather Association (NWA) Seal. This makes her the only meteorologist in Oklahoma with both seals.

Sutton is a distinguished storm chaser and meteorologist who makes forecasts and presents weather sections for NewsChannel 4 at 4 a.m., 5 p.m., and 6 a.m., as well as Freedom 43’s Rise and Shine from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. She had worked with other stations prior to joining KFOR. Prior to KFOR, she previously worked for WCYB-TV in the Tri-Cities/Bristol, Tennessee where she served as the general assignment reporter and meteorologist. Her career started on-air in 2007 at KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Missouri before her tenure with WCYB-TV. Additionally, she has evidently seen storm chasing live throughout the historic May 2013 tornado outbreaks.

Due to her skills in storm chasing, she was nationally recognized with a video showcased on The Weather Channel, CNN,  and MSNBC. She was also profiled by Sam Anderson in “The New York Times Magazine” and also blog “The 6th Floor” in August 2013. She was also featured in “Popular Mechanics” Magazine an article that only focuses on storm chasers. KFOR won a National Emmy for having the best team coverage of May 20, 2013, Moore’s tornado team.

Sutton’s love and passion for weather began when she was a young girl and was fueled when she joined the Storm Chase Team at the University of Missouri where she saw her first tornado in 2004.
