Eric Wilson Biography

Eric Wilson is an American Anchor working with WTVO-TV where he serves the station as a News Anchor. He has been working with the station since May 2016. Asides from this, she also works at Rock Valley College serving the station as an Adjunct Faculty. She has been working with the station since January 2017.

Wilson works with WTVO-TV where he serves the station as a News Anchor. Eric states that he had not always aspired to be a news anchor. He further explains that he had been accepted to the United States Air Force Academy but turned it down after learning that he couldn’t be a military pilot because he didn’t have a 20/20 vision. When he was in high school, he appeared as a contestant on the game show Wheel of Fortune and got a behind-the-scenes look on television. The seed for broadcasting was planted.

Eric earned a double major in Radio/TV Broadcasting and Theater from Lewis University, where he originally studied to be a pilot. Eric began his career as an intern at Entertainment Tonight in Los Angeles and in the weather department at WGN-TV in Chicago, where he worked alongside Tom Skilling.

Before landing a job at WZOK-FM in Rockford, he worked as a fill-in weatherman at WOWO-AM radio and WKJG-TV in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Eric began doing weather at the NBC affiliate in Rockford while working at 97ZOK, eventually leaving radio for a full-time job at that Rockford television station. He was there for nearly 20 years, more than 15 of them as the main anchor.

Away from work, he has a huge love of theater by performing in productions at Rock Valley College’s Studio and Starlight Theatre. He also competes in sprint triathlons, has run dozens of 5ks and 10ks, and has completed three marathons, two of which were completed in the same year.
