Erik Dean Biography
Erik Dean is an American meteorologist working for WTMT as a First Alert Meteorologist. Previously, he worked for KCRG in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Erik Dean Career
Dean graduated with a Bachelor of Atmospheric Sciences degree and works for WTMT as a First Alert Meteorologist. He caught the “weather bug” and developed a fascination when he was 4 years old. He recalls being curious about storms and scared of them simultaneously. He ran into his room to hide but still peeked out and watched storms just to run away again. His fear morphed into a passion and he would be glued to the TV waiting to listen to the forecast.
Dean worked as a weather watcher at the CBS affiliate in Louisville, WLKY, when he was 12 years old. In this role, he delivered weather reports on the weekend. After graduating college, he secured his first on-air gig doing radio at WXKU/WZZB. At WXKU/WZZB, he broadcasted everything including pool parties, the county fairs, news, and weekend weather.
Dean worked in radio until April 2014 when he received a job opportunity at KTWO in Casper, Wyoming. There, he worked as the chief meteorologist until June 2020. In this role, KTWO was the first station in the state to receive the StormReady title from the National Weather Service.
In 2020, Dean moved to Rapid City where he joined KNBN as a meteorologist. During his time there, he broadcasted multiple events including the Sturgis motorcycle rally, the Summer Nights concert series, Mt. Rushmore events, and everything in between. After Rapid City, Dean joined WKBT as a weekend meteorologist but briefly left to work at KCRG in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is happy to return home and serve WYMT.
