Evan Chickvara Biography
Evan Chickvara is an American meteorologist working for WBMA as a morning meteorologist for ABC 33/40 since he was promoted in August 2023. He joined the station in the fall of 2020 as a weekend meteorologist. Previously, he worked for WTVY in Dothan, Alabama, as the morning meteorologist for five and a half years.

Chickvara joined Mississippi State University in 2010 after finishing his high school education. In 2014, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences emphasizing Broadcast Meteorology. During college, he was involved with the Sigma Phi Epsilon and GEOMS Club.

Chickvara has worked for WBMA as a morning meteorologist for ABC 33/40 since he was promoted in August 2023. Upon joining the station, he initially worked as a weekend meteorologist. He joins the station with over a decade of experience in Alabama weather. While at WBMA, he covered the February 2021 snow and the tornado outbreak of May 25, 2021.
Chickvara decided to learn more about meteorology due to his fear of the weather. He used to watch the Weather Channel as a kid, as opposed to his agemates who enjoyed watching cartoons. In 3rd grade, he met a meteorologist from the NWS Peachtree City and decided to make his fascination with weather a lifestyle.
After graduating from college, Chickvara joined WTVY in Dothan, Alabama. He worked there as the morning meteorologist for five and a half years before moving to ABC 33/40. In Alabama, he broadcast multiple extreme events dating back to 2015. One of the more notable occassions covered includes Hurricane Michael in 2018.
Besides the weather and forecasting, Chickvara is passionate about explaining weather and “why things happen.” This is because he overcame the fear of weather after he understood how things work and therefore, hopes he’ll be able to do the same for others.
