Grant Skinner Biography
Grant Skinner is an American meteorologist working for WKRG as a weekend evening meteorologist and a weekday digital reporter. He joined the station in December 2021.

Skinner attended the University of South Alabama after completing his high school education. When he finished his studies in May 2022, he became a Magna Cum Laude graduate and attained a Bachelor Of Science degree in Meteorology with a focus on Broadcasting and minors in Music and Mathematics.
While there, his course was taught by News 5 First Alert Storm Team’s Morning Meteorologist, John Nodar. Further, he was heavily involved with the USA Jaguar Marching Band where he served as drum major for his junior and senior seasons. The student body voted him the 2021 Homecoming King.

Skinner works for WKRG as a weekend evening meteorologist and a weekday digital reporter. He joined the station in December 2021. After taking a course taught by News 5’s John Nodar, his love for broadcasting was cemented. He is excited to work alongside his mentor and professor.
While in college, he researched the effects of near-surface temperature inversions on agricultural sites along the Gulf Coast alongside Dr. Sytske Kimball. In January 2022, he presented at the undergraduate research symposium at his alma mater and at the American Meteorological Society conference.
Further, he has worked with USA’s Coastal Weather Research Center to caution businesses counting Alabama Power to take precautions during severe weather. He served as WKRG’s intern in the summer of 2021.
Passionate about severe and hazardous weather, he will use his knowledge and experience to caution to safeguard the Gulf Coast. In his spare time, he loves to watch shows and college sports, plays guitar, and spends time with family and friends.
