Ballou serves WLBT FOX40 as an evening news anchor at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. and as a general assignment reporter. He previously served the station as a producer and executive producer. For two years, he simultaneously served WDBD as a 9 p.m. anchor and WLBT as an anchor at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. Since 1984, he has anchored and reported for the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts. He has also worked for KDFW in Texas, WHBQ in Tennessee, WFBC/WYFF, WIS in South Carolina, and WCCB in North Carolina.
Ballou has worked in the broadcasting industry for more than 3 decades. During this time, he has won multiple awards including three First Place Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Awards, United Press International’s “Best Documentary” Award for reporting on Tennessee Drunk Driving Legislation, and a Best Franchise Award for his Taking Back Our Neighborhoods series of reports since 2009.
In 2016, the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters granted him a First Place Best Documentary for An Autograph for the Ages. He served as an inductee of the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2007. The Jackson City Council gave him a resolution for maintaining outstanding stewardship in news journalism.
Ballou previously served the local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists as the President. Also, he worked as the Regional Director for the Society of Professional Journalists/Sigma Delta Chi. Active in the community, he serves as on the board of directors of many charitable and civic organizations.
