He started his journalism career when he was 5 years old on a local segment by the name of Thought for the Day on WAFB-TV. Before he graduated from college he had already secured a job at WXOK-AM radio where he served as a news anchor and a reporter.

Carey, later on, worked for other radio stations like WYCT-FM and KQXL-AM where he served as a news director as well as an anchor and also managed a small news staff. He then started his TV journalism career that year at WVLA where he served as a Public Affairs talk show host and reporter. He left WVLA and re-joined WAFB-TV, the station he worked for when he was in third grade. In September 2001, he left the station and started working for KRIV-TV.

Carey has also managed to win several awards ever since he started his journalism career. For instance, he is a recipient of an Emmy award as well as an award from the Society of Professional Journalists. When not busy working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends.
