Jacqueline Matter Biography
Jacqueline Matter is an American journalist who serves as a news anchor and reporter for FOX 5 DC in the District of Columbia.
She anchors weekend evenings at 6, 7, 10, and 11 p.m. and also serves as a reporter for the weekday evening shows.
Jacqueline Matter Education
Matter got her high school diploma from San Clemente High School. She later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Matter was a member of UNC’s all-girl cheerleading team and a sister of Phi Mu.
Being Miss North Carolina International 2016, Jacqueline actively advocated for PTSD awareness on behalf of active-duty military, veterans and their families. At Miss International, she placed Top 10 and spent her year of service speaking at events nationally with NAMI and Hope for the Warriors.
While in college, Matter interned at all four local news stations in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was a News 14 Carolina intern from September 2013 to December 2013. In April 2014, she joined WNCN (Media General, Inc.) as a news intern. There, she wrote stories for the daily newscast and teases and was chosen for the anchor position for the intern show.
She was a Sportsfan intern for WRAL from August 2014 to December 2014. Matter was a sports reporter for UNC Sports Extra from September 2013 to May 2015. In her role, she interviewed athletes, coaches, and fans involved in multiple sports on campus.
She was also contacted by ESPN and USA Today for a story covering Caleb Pressley, UNC’s Supervisor of Morale. Matter later served as a news reporter for Carolina Week at Chapel Hill, North Carolina from January 2015 to May 2015. She was an investigative intern for ABC11 Eyewitness News – WTVD from January to May 2015.
Jacqueline Matter Career
Matter initially served as the WNCT bureau chief reporter in Jacksonville, NC from May 2015 to December 2016. She later became the anchor of the morning newscasts at WNCT in eastern North Carolina. Matter spends five years in ABC7 News in Tampa, Florida. Initially joining as a morning news anchor, Matter was also the host of a political and investigative talk show and finally the weekday evening anchor. She joined FOX 5 DC in July 2021.
Matter has made notable coverage which includes hurricanes, the Parkland shooting, the Surfside building collapse, and the 2020 election. Coming from five generations of military men, she has covered veterans’ issues. Her coverage has led to changes at the federal level regarding toxic water exposure. Matter’s coverage helped a Korean War veteran receive a Silver Star for his heroic actions in combat more than 7 decades ago.
