Jarvis Haren Biography

Jarvis Haren is an American sports anchor and reporter working for WHSV in Harrisonburg, Virginia serving the station as a Sports Director since April 2023. Prior to this, he was working at WCYB where he serves as a weekend sports anchor and reporter. He joined the WCYB team in October 2018, after previously working at KABC-TV.

San Diego is Haren’s native home and he attended California State University, Northridge in Los Angeles where he graduated with a bachelor of arts in broadcast journalism with a minor in Communication Studies. He interned at Fox 5 Morning News in San Diego, Fox Sports Radio, and ABC 7’s sports department in Los Angeles while he was still in college. Prior to relocation to Southern California, he resided in the Tri-Cities. In addition, his favorite assignments were the 2017 NHL All-Star Game and the 2016 MLB All-Star Game.

He also enjoyed covering games and conferences of professional and collegiate sports teams such as USC, Lakers, UCLA, Kings, Dodgers, and Ducks. While he was at CSUN, he was involved with the student-run television and the campus radio station, KCSN. In addition, his notable works include hosting a panel discussing public transit in Los Angelos and doing a feature story on former Los Angeles Dodgers announcer, Ross Porter after he returned to the broadcast booth.

For the storied Jarvis covered, he earned the Steve Fishman Memorial Scholarship Award which is an award for students who show marked capability for broadcasting news, sports, and another programming. During his downtime, he enjoys attending musical theatre, playing golf, competing in board games with family and friends, cooking or baking, and reading a good book.
