Franklin attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 2014 where she earned a diploma in 2018. While there, she worked as an anchor at the daily student-run newscasts which won her various 1st place Midwest regional awards. Later on, Jasmine enrolled at Grambling State University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Media studies and Mass Communication in 2022. As a freshman at Grambling State University, Jasmine went abroad to Italy to study.
During her period at the University, she served as an intern for several channels such as NBC Sports Network, Coca-Cola, ABC 7 News Chicago, and The Chicago Sun-Times. As an undergraduate student, she made headlines when she became the youngest editor-in-chief of The Gramblinite Newspaper.

Prior to working for KSLA News, Jasmine worked for ABC 7 Chicago as an investigative news intern. In her role as an investigative news intern, she worked for the station from May 2022 to January 2024.
Before working as an investigative news intern, Franklin worked as a news reporter at KNOE-TV8 in Monroe, Louisiana. While there, she was in charge of various duties such as editing content, researching stories, and writing scripts. She also conducted interviews with prominent politicians such as U.S. Secretary of HUD and Vice President of the U.S. as well as reported major breaking news including car crashes and shootings.
Previously, Jasmine served as a sports reporter at NBC Sports where she met top athletes such as NBA Champion J.R. Smith. She also wrote and executed story ideas for NBC Sports and created scripts for sporting events like high school and college football games. Franklin served the station for two months from October 2021 to November 2021.
Franklin began her professional career at the Chicago Sun-Times working as a breaking news intern from May 2019 to August 2019. During her time at Chicago Sun, Jasmine covered breaking news stories including house fires and shootings as well as pitched story ideas during staff meetings. In addition to this, she also created untold stories that push boundaries and shatter perceptions surrounding communities of color.
