Jason Nicholas Biography
Jason Nicholas is an American meteorologist who has been working for WOIO as the chief meteorologist since joining the station in December 2016. In this role, he appears on weeknights at 4, 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m. Previously, he worked at WEWS as a weather forecaster and host of the high school quiz show Academic Challenge for a decade.

Nicholas joined the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens in 1995 when he finished his studies at Medina High School. In 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism. He then joined Mississippi State University where he studied meteorology and completed the Broadcast Meteorology Program in 2004, receiving a Bachelor Of Science degree in Broadcast Meteorology.

Nicholas served as the initial Cleveland meteorologist to obtain the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Before receiving the CBM, he held the AMS Seal of Approval. Further, he holds the National Weather Association (NWA) Seal of Approval. Additionally, he serves on the seal committee of NWA and is a member of both the AMS and NWA.
Away from the newsroom, Nicholas volunteers with local charities such as Youth Opportunities Unlimited, the Cleveland APL, the Northeast Ohio Autism Group, and Cleveland’s Key to the Cure which increases money and awareness for women’s cancers at the Cleveland Clinic.
