Jerel Ballard Biography
Jerel Ballard is an American journalist working for WKOW as a reporter and multimedia journalist since joining the station in September 2023. Since January 2016, he has worked as a founder and president of Milwaukee’s Finest Scholarship Foundation in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
Jerel Ballard Education
Ballard joined Columbia College Chicago in 2013 when he finished his education at Riverside University High School. He then joined Columbia College Chicago where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications in 2017.
Ballard graduated Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government from George Mason University in Washington D.C. During college, he was an intern on Capitol Hill for the U.S. Senate, the Mayor of Chicago, and the Mayor of Milwaukee.

During his career, Ballard has broadcasted comprehensive stories, spanning local, regional, and national spectrum. His assignments include the harrowing kidnapping of Jayme Closs in Barron, presidential visits in Green Bay, and the catastrophic mass shooting event at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau.
Ballard worked for the Milwaukee Police Department- Chief of Police as the marketing and communications officer. He also worked as the communications director for the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. Additionally, he was a communications consultant in the Office of the President for the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Aside from his professional, Ballard is passionate about community service and philanthropy. He was a founder of Milwaukee’s Finest Scholarship Foundation in 2016, which has granted almost $100,000 in scholarships for Wisconsin high school students who joined post-secondary education.
