Jeremy Wheeler Biography

Jeremy Wheeler is an American meteorologist working at WAVY where he serves as a morning and midday meteorologist on WAVY News 10 Today and WAVY News 10 Midday. He joined the WAVY team in August 2004.

Wheeler studies began at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric science. Following graduation, he decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in broadcast meteorology at Mississippi State University.

Wheeler works at WAVY where he serves as a morning and midday meteorologist. He was brought up in a small town in northern Illinois called Ottawa. While he was still studying at Mississippi State University, he served as a lab instructor and worked at WABG-TV in Greensville, Mississippi where he served as a weekend meteorologist. In addition, after he had graduated from Mississippi State University, he worked at the same University as a meteorology instructor for a year and he was also a storm chase team leader.

Before he joined WAVY-TV, he worked at WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Alabama where he served as a meteorologist. Since he relocated to Hampton Roads, he has covered many severe weather events such as hurricanes Irene and Sandy, and the 2010 snowstorm. In 2004, he was awarded a seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society.

Furthermore, he was the first meteorologist to get the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal at WAVY-TV. In addition, Wheeler also taught weather lab at Virginia Wesleyan College. During his free time, he enjoys crossword puzzles, spending time with his family, plucking guitar, and working out at the gym.
