Scott Abbott is an American Chief Photographer, News Operations Manager, and veteran helicopter pilot working as the pilot of WAVY-TV 10 Chopper 10; a Bell 206L-3, which is the region’s only news helicopter. He joined the WAVY-TV team in 2017.

Abbott is a skilled pilot with 30 years of experience in both military and civilian rotary-wing aircraft operations. Abbott is familiar with the skies over Hampton Roads. For 17 years, he was a pilot for the Virginia Beach Police Department.
As a Patrol/EMS Pilot, he was assigned to the VBPD Aviation Unit. He supported ground units in apprehending a number of convicts and carried out the first MEDEVAC in VBPD history. He was chosen and attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander/Naval Aviator. During Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, Abbott’s HC-11 Detachment 8 flew more than 200 hours in support of 59 multi-national forces.
As the Helicopter Standardization and NATOPS officer for the Navy’s undergraduate helicopter training program, Abbott also directed and assessed rotary-wing flying instructors.
