Avlon and his colleagues were responsible for preparing the eulogies for all the firefighters and police officers injured in the collapse of the World Trade Center after the September 11, 2001 attacks. “The Resilient City” Avlon’s article on the attacks, finished the anthology Empire City: New York over the years and received praise as “the single best essay written in the wake of 9/11.” He appeared with Stephen Colbert on the Late Show, Real Time with Bill Maher, and The Daily Show. He appeared on the Late Show. He won the Best Online Columnist 2012 award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
