John Hancock is a Canadian reporter and hosts working for CBC News in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is also the host of Sports Talk with John Hancock, a podcast that features notable sports personalities around the world.
John Hancock Career
Hancock is a Radio national sports host and reporter with extensive Olympics experience at CBC Radio morning shows across the country from St. John’s to Calgary. These include 9 Olympic assignments as a reporter, play-by-play announcer, and national host. His first Olympic reports were pre-games features for the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. Throughout his career, he has covered both the Calgary Winter Games and the Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea in 1988, and the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984.
While serving as a host, he co-hosted CBC Radio’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. He was also a host and reporter at the 2000 Olympic Summer Games in Sydney and the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano. Hancock hosted the Salt Lake City Olympic Games in 2002 and did live play-by-play across the network for the men’s and women’s gold medal hockey games. In 1999, he covered the Canada Games and Pan-Am Games for CBC Radio working as a reporter. Furthermore, he hosted the Olympic Games in Greece in 2004.
During his time working for CBC as a reporter, he covered a number of stories including the Ben Johnson fiasco at the Seoul Olympics. Covering the Montreal Canadiens training camp is one of his most memorable events. During the fall of Communism in 1989 in Moscow, he found himself filing as many socio-political news stories as he did hockey results.
He also hosts ‘Sports Talk with John Hancock,’ a CBC national podcast series. Episodes feature conversations with Canadian athletes and people in the sports world. After graduating from high school and earning his High School Diploma in General Education. He joined Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario to pursue his career course. After completing his studies there, he graduated with a broadcast program. Several years ago, he was inducted into the hall of fame at his high school in Cambridge.
