Joie Bettenhausen Biography
Joie Bettenhausen is an American meteorologist and traffic anchor known for having worked for KWWL as a morning traffic anchor on Good Morning Oklahoma and a midday meteorologist. She joined KWWL in June 2020 and departed in July 2022. Before joining KWWL, she served at KSNF as a Weekend Meteorologist and Multimedia Journalist. In her departure from KWWL, she stated that she explained her departure that her timely opportunity came in her direction, where she could continue her career and at the same time spend more time with her husband.
Joliet, Illinois is her native home and she resided in the area until she moved away for college at the age of 18. She loved watching The Weather Channel and learning as much as she could about the weather ever since she was 2 years old. Joie also loved watching storms outside however, when a tornado warning was issued she would go to the basement as it scared her. In 2014, she joined Valparaiso University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in meteorology in 2018. While she was in college, she was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity and was actively involved in the school’s TV station known as VUTV.
In addition, for the 4 years, she was at Valparaiso University, she provided weather updates to the campus and Valparaiso community. During her junior year, she served as a weekly news meteorologist, and by the time she was in her senior year, she served as a co-Weather Director. Furthermore, together with her co-director, they hosted a bi-weekly weather show and managed the VUTV Weather Department. Bettenhausen interned at WGN in Chicago, Illinois under Tom Skilling and at WCIA in Champaign, Illinois.
Over the years, Bettenhausen has learned a lot about severe weather and witnessed many severe storms such as the EF3 tornado that tore apart the neighboring town of Carl Junction, Missouri in 2019. While she was in Missouri, she reported and covered events such as fairs, and topics ranging from storm damage to agricultural stories. From 2018 to 2020, she served as the weekend meteorologist. Whenever she finds time, she enjoys dancing, trying local restaurants, hitting the gym, kayaking, and traveling.
