Jon Meyer Biography
Jon Meyer is an American journalist working for WNEP serving as an anchor/reporter. He joined the station back in June 2003 and has been with the station ever since.
Jon Meyer Career
Meyer anchors Newswatch 16 at 5 and 5:30 and anchors Newswatch 16 at 5 and 5:30 with Julie Sidoni. Additionally, he takes his viewers on a journey once a week through the station’s beloved On the Pennsylvania Road segment. He joined WNEP serving as the station’s reporter and his first job at the station was as the Luzerne County beat reporter. He spent six years serving as the anchor of the weekend evening newscasts prior to switching to Monday through Friday to Newswatch 16 at 5 and 5:30. Mike Stevens retired therefore Meyer took the position and over the On the Pennsylvania Road segment.
Meyer managed to enclose quite a number of stories for the station. He has also managed to win several awards including a Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) award for his reports after he went to Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010 with a group from central Pennsylvania. He also won a PAB award along with Julie Sidoni for their extensive on-air coverage of the historic flooding of 2011. PAB awarded him for his feature reporting of a World War II veteran who was the feature of a best-selling novel about his heroic story from the war.
Meyer had also worked with other stations prior to joining WNEP-TV. He previously worked for WJAC-TV in Johnstown where he served as a weekend anchor and reporter. He was also a key to WJAC’s coverage of the September 11, 2001 attack on America. Meyer was also the first reporter at the crash site where a United Airlines Flight 93 crashed only 20 miles from Johnstown in Somerset County. He was hand in hand with the story and made sure he was always ready to report every detail for the weeks and months that followed. His accounts of the crash were so great that they appeared in several books about September 11 and its aftermath.
Meyer attended Syracuse University where he graduated with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and International Relations. Meyer and Julie Sidoni are from the same town and went to high school together. He has always wanted to be working in TV and for him, it is a dream come true.
