Jonathan Kegges Biography
Jonathan Kegges is an American journalist who serves as a Weekend Morning Meteorologist at the Graham Media Group-owned CBS affiliate, WKMG (News 6) in Orlando, Florida, United States.
His fascination with the weather started at a young age whereby thunderstorms scared him and he always wanted to know what was going on. Throughout his meteorology career of over 10 years, Kegges has become skilled in severe weather tracking, creating engaging weather graphics, and presenting a compelling weather story.
Jonathan earned the designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society in 2014 which is the highest rating awarded by the society.
Jonathan Kegges Education
Kegges attended Penn Hills Senior High School from where he graduated in 2006. At school, he was part of the school’s cross country and track teams as well as a member of the National Honor Society. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He later attended The Pennsylvania State University from 2006 to 2010 graduating with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Meteorology. There, he was part of the Campus Weather Service.
Kegges interned at WTAE-TV Hearst Pittsburgh in Greater Pittsburgh Area from May 2010 to August 2010. He interned under meteorologists Stephen Cropper, Erin Kienzle, and Demetrius Ivory, putting together forecasts and building graphics using Weather Central.
Jonathan Kegges Career
Kegges began his career at KTTC-TV in Rochester, Minnesota as a weekend meteorologist and reporter in February 2011. In March 2015, he joined the NBC affiliate in Roanoke, Virginia, WSLS 10. While there, he covered three EF-3 tornadoes and deadly flooding brought on by Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
He also stayed active in the community participating in numerous school visits and charity events. Kegges provided the Salem Red Sox baseball team with an in-game big-screen video forecast. He also occasionally co-hosted WSLS’s daytime show Daytime Blue Ridge. Jonathan’s work also included providing on-air traffic reports for the morning show. He became the morning and noon meteorologist in July 2017. His role was to forecast, produce, and broadcast weathercasts on weekday mornings and at noon. Report breaking weather live in the field. Kegges moved to WKMG News 6 in Orlando, Florida Area in June 2019. He forecasts, produces, and broadcasts weathercasts live on weekend mornings. Proficient with MAX products and Baron Lynx. He also produces compelling weather graphics for weekday shows during the week. Jonathan acts as a fill-in for the morning and chief meteorologist and fill-in on morning traffic.
